Despite its many capabilities, it lacks private messaging or the option to hide identification from prying eyes, which are available in apps like Telegram and Hike.
Most WhatsApp users have attempted to hide some of their chats at some point, but it’s not always as easy as it appears.

How to hide chats on Whatsapp?
The steps following should be followed by anyone with an iOS or Android device.
On Android
- Using WhatsApp, locate the chat you want to hide and click on the envelope icon to the right of its thread.
- Long-pressing an interview’s button will make it hidden.
- Click the archive button in the upper right to make the chat hidden.
On iPhone
- Open WhatsApp and do a search for the chat you want to hide.
- Select “Archive” from the context menu that displays when you right-click the chat.
- Since the conversation has been archived, you will no longer see it in your chat history.
How to unhide a chat in WhatsApp?
To restore a previously hidden WhatsApp chat, please refer to the steps below.
On Android
- Look at the very end of the WhatsApp comment thread.
- The “Archived” menu item will then be available. Click this to see your archive of the chat transcripts.
- Now, while still holding shift, click the “Unarchive chat” icon in the upper right corner of the chat window.
On iPhone
- Go to the top of the WhatsApp chat list.
- With a downward slide, you can now access the “Archived Chats” option.
- Simply go to “Archived Chats” and swipe right to bring back a conversation you had previously deleted.
- Click “Unarchive” to delete the file from the archive.
In the event that a message is received after the chat has been archived, it will be unarchived and returned to the chat list.
How can I hide WhatsApp chat without an archive?
You can start using WhatsApp once you download the app and sign in with your phone number. When in a chat, tap the menu icon (three dots) to hide the menu. Select a lock method now, such as a pattern, pin, or fingerprint lock, based on your personal preference. After entering the code, the chat will be hidden.
What happens when you hide a chat on WhatsApp?
The “Archived” option in the messaging app is there so you can secretly store messages. In case you weren’t aware, hiding a chat does not permanently destroy it or save a duplicate of it to your SD card. WhatsApp ensures the privacy of your chats.
According to WhatsApp, you will no longer get notifications about these discussions “unless they are referenced or replied to.”
