Learn how to manage user accounts in Chrome so that you can share the browser with others.
We’ll teach you how to manage user profiles in Chrome today. Google Chrome allows us to create profiles to save and sync all our browsing information. Thanks to these accounts, we can sync our browsing history, bookmarks, and add-ons. In a nutshell, it syncs our configuration and customization settings across all Chrome-enabled computers.
When we share a computer with family members, roommates, or coworkers, the option to build a personalized profile allows us to use Google Chrome with the same features that we have been adding and configuring regardless of the computer we are using.
What are Google profiles?
Google Chrome profiles record our search and browsing history and our organized bookmarks, all of our links, and passwords.
We can save our settings in the browser by using a Google profile, just like operating systems, streaming platforms, or other software or applications.
Advantages of using a Google profile?
When configuring a profile, we will have direct access to our bookmarks and the typical navigation features when using the browser on a different device. It is most likely the first benefit that comes to mind.
We will have a better browsing experience since it will save our search history in our profile, and we will get better options in the browser suggestions when we write anything.
We won’t have any problems signing in to any website with auto-complete choices or saved passwords.
We can activate or disable whatever item we like by clicking the menu button at the top right and going to Settings > Google. You> Manage: programs, bookmarks, settings, theme, extensions, history, reading list, open tabs, addresses, passwords, or payment methods.
We will also be able to automatically log in to the services connected with each account using the Chrome profile, such as YouTube, Gmail, Drive, Docs, etc.
Add or create a new Google profile?
Go to the top right corner and click on the photo to create a new profile. If we are already connected, we will see the user’s picture; otherwise, we will see a silhouette. Then choose (+) Add.
There will be a prompt in the form of a pop-up window. If we already have a Google account, we will use it to log in. If not, we can easily make a new one.
We’ll add a photo, name, and color theme to our new profile on the following screen.
To turn on the sync, click on the photo in the upper right corner, then the Activate sync button. Next, we must either sign in with a current Google account or create a new one. This will be used as a backup to keep all of our personal information.
In the mobile versions of Chrome, you can only have one profile at a time. So, in this case, we can sync our existing settings by adding the new user we created to our Android smartphone.
- To do so, we’ll need to do the following steps:
- First, we’ll go to the Android smartphone or tablet’s Settings area.
- We’ll start with System, Advanced Settings, and then Multiple Users. If you can’t find this route on your device, try searching for “users” in the Settings app.
- After that, select Add user and then OK.
- If the user is close to you, you can set up the account right away; otherwise, select Not Now and set it up later when you switch to this user.
On iPhone and iPad
The same thing happens with iOS devices; we can only use one profile in Chrome, and we must add and change users directly from the mobile web browser.
To do so, go to Settings by clicking on the “…” menu button. Select the first option. Select your account from the drop-down menu or create a new profile after enabling sync.
Delete a Google profile on Chrome?
We only need to access the list of profiles to be able to delete a user profile from the Google browser. Click the photo and then the gear icon to the right of “Other profiles.”
A new window will open up with a list of all the users who are now using the app; all we have to do now is click on the icon with the three dots in the upper right corner to delete them by pressing the Delete button.
