On your Xiaomi or POCO phone, this is how you can reclaim the choice to deactivate applications in MIUI 12.
MIUI 12 and following releases (MIUI 12.1, 12.5…) have introduced a slew of new features to Xiaomi’s phones, including the Redmi and POCO brands. However, other new features, such as the ability to disable preinstalled programs on a Xiaomi phone, have been a setback in terms of the number of alternatives available.
This option, which was previously known by default in the Applications section of Settings, is no longer available in the most recent versions of the Xiaomi customization layer, forcing us to rely on third-party solutions, which we will discuss below.
Guide: Remove preinstalled applications
Hidden Settings for MIUI is software that allows us to regain the ability to deactivate Xiaomi’s preinstalled apps. This application, available for free on the Play Store, is compatible with POCO and Redmi brand phones.
After running the program and providing the appropriate permissions, we’ll go to the Manage Applications option that we can locate initially. The app will then provide a list of all the apps that have been installed on the device.
Next, click the three dots on the bottom bar (More button) and select Show system to see the programs installed by default on the system, such as Google Chrome, Google Duo, or Google Play Movies.
How can I uninstall preinstalled apps on Xiaomi’s MIUI 12?
All we have to do is go into each of the apps we want to disable and use the homonymous option to force them to stop, as shown in the image above. Note that this option does not delete the application; instead, it is unavailable to the rest of the system.
To regain access to the app in question, repeat the process above by selecting the Enable option. If we want to delete these apps completely, we propose reading this other instruction, which describes how to uninstall Xiaomi default apps.
