By Wednesday star Jenna Ortega drew inspiration from a variety of sources, including the show’s iconic dance scene, images of Siouxsie Sioux and gothic dance club, among others.
Ortega shared a clip of her dancing character in the Addams Family spinoff series, thanking several music artists who helped her prepare for the dance scene. “Thanks to archival footage of Siouxsie Sioux, Bob Fosse’s Rich Man’s Frug, Lisa Loring, Lene Lovich, Denis Lavant, and goths dancing in ’80s clubs,” he wrote. “He helped me with this.”
Ortega watched dance videos to actively prepare for her role. Wednesdaynoted that she started getting into character, in a way, before she knew the Netflix show. Talking about his relationship with actress Maddie Ziegler, Ortega revealed that like his character, he was involved in a certain kind of mischief as a child.
“He’s such a weirdo and I’m a weirdo the way I used to do autopsies on small animals when I was younger,” Ortega said. “Little lizards I found dead in my backyard. It’s weird in the sense that it turns into characters and makes gestures or faces.”
Plans for Wednesday Season 2
first season Wednesday It recently premiered on Netflix, but series creators and producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar already have ideas for a second season. “Like any relationship or friendship, it can get complicated due to other factors,” Gough said, noting that he wants to continue exploring the relationship between Wednesday and Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers). He continued, “It’s never going to be smooth. And it’s really her learning to navigate the ups and downs of friendship.” Millar said he hopes to continue portraying other characters as well. “We felt like we were touching the surface with these characters,” he said.
While Gough and Millar are already considering how to expand Wednesdaythe characters, the show was almost too different. In a recent interview, Gough recalled that he and Millar expected Burton to say “no” when they sent the script to the director. “Three days later she called her manager and said ‘Tim loves her,'” they were surprised.
When asked why he agreed to direct the Netflix series, Burton, Gough and Millar said: Wednesday scenario “just talked to me about how I felt at school and how you felt about your family, how you felt as a person.” “It brought a different kind of reality to the Addams Family. It was an interesting combination,” he said.
Wednesday It is currently available to watch on Netflix.
